Create Custom Post Types and Taxonomies Without the Admin Bloat
BBA Custom Types gives WordPress site owners a focused dashboard for creating custom post types and taxonomies without editing theme files or writing registration code.
Set labels, URL bases, archive support, editor and REST API availability, supported features, and taxonomy relationships. Saves happen with AJAX, and the plugin has no runtime dependency on jQuery or external services.
Free and open source · No jQuery · AJAX saves · REST and block-editor ready
A focused content-modeling tool for WordPress
Projects, testimonials, events, resources, locations, product collections, and case studies all need a structure that is more useful than a generic post. BBA Custom Types helps you create that structure from one clear admin screen.
The plugin keeps the distinction between an internal WordPress key and a public URL base visible. That means you can preserve existing content while changing the public rewrite path when your site evolves.

Main features
Custom post types
Create content types with singular and plural labels, a generated internal key, public visibility, archives, menu position, supported features, and a frontend URL base.
Flexible taxonomies
Build hierarchical or flat taxonomies, attach each one to the right custom post types, and set their labels, public visibility, URL base, and REST API availability.
Stable content keys
Use the first-save slug to generate a WordPress key, then keep that key stable so existing posts remain associated with the same content type.
Block editor and REST API support
Enable Show in REST for a post type or taxonomy to make it available to the WordPress REST API and the block editor.
Validation and AJAX saves
Validate generated keys and slugs before saving, then update the dashboard without a full page reload. Taxonomy attachment choices refresh as you add types.
Local and dependency-free
Definitions stay in your WordPress database. The plugin does not send site data to third-party services and does not require an account.
Organize the content your website actually needs
Use custom post types when a collection needs its own admin menu, editor fields, archive, or template. Add taxonomies when visitors and editors need a useful way to classify that content.

1. Install and activate
Install BBA Custom Types from the WordPress Plugin Directory, then activate it from the Plugins screen. Open BBA Custom Types from the WordPress admin menu.
2. Create a custom post type
Select New Custom Post Type. Enter a singular name such as “Project”, then review the generated plural name and URL slug. Choose public visibility, archive support, REST API support, menu position, and the editor features the type should support.
3. Understand the internal key and public URL
On the first save, BBA Custom Types generates an internal WordPress key from the URL slug. Keep that key unchanged after you have created content. If you want to change only the public permalink path, use Frontend URL base instead.
4. Create a taxonomy
Select New taxonomy, name it, choose whether it should be hierarchical like categories or flat like tags, then select the custom post types that should use it. Save the taxonomy to make it available immediately.
5. Refresh permalinks after changing a URL base
After you change a frontend URL base, go to Settings → Permalinks and select Save Changes once. This refreshes WordPress rewrite rules.

Frequently asked questions
Is BBA Custom Types free?
Yes. BBA Custom Types is free and open source.
Does it create both post types and taxonomies?
Yes. You can create and manage custom post types and taxonomies from the same dashboard, then attach each taxonomy to one or more custom post types.
Will changing the URL slug affect existing content?
It can. The URL slug helps generate the internal key on the first save. After content exists, use Frontend URL base to change public URLs while preserving the original key.
Does it work with the block editor?
Yes. Enable Show in REST for a custom post type or taxonomy to make it available to the WordPress REST API and the block editor.
Does the plugin send data to an external service?
No. BBA Custom Types runs entirely within your WordPress installation and does not require an account or external service.
